It is understandable that Adams is open to making a major move right now. When looking at their group, there is no question that they could use another proven top-six winger and a solid right-shot defenseman.
In addition, it is understandable that Adams does not want to part ways with any of his important young NHL-caliber players. The Sabres are currently looking to break their 13-year playoff drought so trading a key NHL piece just does not make sense for them right now.
The Sabres have a solid prospect pool and draft picks to work with to make a potential splash. It will be intriguing to see if they end up doing just that from here.
