Matt Reeves Confirms Steps for The Penguin Season 2 Are Already Underway

The first season of The Penguin, the HBO spinoff set in Matt Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga Universe, was well received by both critics and fans alike. It’s no surprise then, that talks are already underway for an additional season, though the timeline makes that tricky.

The series leads up to the events that take place in The Batman Part II, which is currently scheduled to come out in October 2026, which is almost two years away! That timeline hasn’t stopped Reeves and Warner Bros., however, from seeing how they can get more time with Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb.

In a Variety interview between Reeves and Zoë Kravitz—the director of the recent Don’t Blink Twice who also played Selina in The Batman—Reeves shared that the desire to make more of The Penguin has led to discussions about what a second season could be.

“We’re talking to [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] about doing another season,” Reeves told Kravitz, saying that the show was “a special experience.”

He added, “I just feel really fortunate. These characters don’t belong to me; they belong to the world. It comes down to whether you can approach them in a way that expresses something personal.”

Whether we get another season of The Penguin or not (and I’d bet a Batarang that we do), the odds are even higher that we’ll get more spinoff series set in this universe. “There’s another television exploration we’re going to do,” Reeves said back in September. “We’re looking at this entire world as it relates to who Batman is—the antagonists around them, all the crime that has to be navigated in the city—and trying to figure out where are the areas that are best to explore.”

While we wait for more installments in the Batman Epic Crime Saga universe, we can (re)watch the first season of The Penguin, which is currently streaming on Max. icon-paragraph-end
