After Helene, more search teams on the way to Buncombe

As of Sunday afternoon, 14 search and rescue teams were operating in Buncombe County, including eight federal teams and six from North Carolina, said Ryan Cole, Buncombe County assistant emergency services director. More teams are on the way to assist, he said.

Residents should also look to their local fire departments for assistance, he said.

“I cannot stress enough how these fire departments in these hubs of the communities have stood up to make sure that your communities are taken care of and are feeding information back to us so that we can get information out to them,” Cole said. “ If you have a need in your community, please go to the fire department and work with them, because they have a lot of resources already at the fire department.”
