When it comes to Cincinnati Bengals undrafted free agents this year, names like Seth McLaughlin tend to rise above the rest.
But it seems that sleeping on defensive lineman Eric Gregory out of Arkansas could end up being a mistake.
It turns out that Gregory had a handful of other teams reaching out to him after he fell into the undrafted pool after seven rounds. But he chose the Bengals, as explained by Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:
“Gregory had plenty of interest after the draft. He counted five or six teams, but they passed him in the last round, and that helped the Bengals. Also helping the Bengals were his coaches at Arkansas. As the seventh round unwound, they told him they were aware of defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery as a developer of young talent.”

The Bengals are a big selling point for a lot of reasons for college free agents. But it certainly helps that they didn’t have a seventh-round pick this year and otherwise might’ve drafted Gregory.
That, plus the Bengals can point out that someone like Maema Njongmeta went undrafted and made the roster last year, too. Gregory could be the next, especially after the team didn’t technically draft his position during the event itself.
