Castello di Gropparello (Gropparello Castle) in Gropparello, Italy

Gropparello Castle in Italy is a stunning medieval castle full of history: Charlemagne, Knights Templar, the Ghibellines, and various Italian noble families have all held possession of this property over the centuries.

Medieval, Renaissance, and Gothic styles adorn the castle. The property was purchased 30 years ago by a family from Milan, restored and opened to the public; now there are many events for children and adults in what is known as the “fairytale” park.

Among the things to admire: two stone knights from the 18th century guarding the entrance, a 12th century bas-relief with Saint George and the dragon on the top of entrance, a nice griffin on the roof, several sets of ancient armor, a beautiful Italian harpsichord, a neo-Gothic chapel, the music room with a beautiful Érard piano from 1847, and a pipe organ hidden in the cellar.

During the evenings, there is also the possibility of meeting the castle’s ghost, Lady Rosania. Legend has it that she  was walled up alive by her husband for betrayal.
