The 2024-25 season is in the books for the Philadelphia 76ers, which means it is the time to look back on the season that was for each player. The Sixers finished 24-58 as they missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2016-17 season amid a slew of injuries.
The Sixers used a grand total of 30 players throughout the season and an NBA record 53 starting lineups. This series will focus on the 15 players on standard deals and the three on two-way deals to finish the season–not anybody who finished the season on a 10-day deal.
Last, but certainly not least, in this series is Joel Embiid. The big fella suffered through a tough 2024-25 season when he played only 19 games. The 2023 MVP winner never looked like himself in those games as he continued to fight his way back from a bothersome knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April as he looks to be ready for 2025-26.

Embiid’s overview
The big fella did not make his season debut until Nov. 12 as he missed the first nine games due to the bothersome knee as well as a 3-game suspension for an altercation with a reporter in the locker room. Embiid then was only playing thee or four games at a time before he had to sit out again for long stretches. No matter what he did to manage the injury, he wasn’t able to give the Sixers what he normally is able to give. He played his final game on Feb. 22 when he had 14 points in 31 minutes of a loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
Embiid highlights
There weren’t many for him in 2024-25, but Embiid did have a triple-double in a Feb. 4 win over the Dallas Mavericks. He went for 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists as he was able to lift Philadelphia to a much-needed win at the time.
Final grade
The season for Embiid was a struggle. There is no other way to put it, but he does deserve credit for putting his body on the line and trying to lead the way for this group. He tried, but his body just wasn’t ready and it was unfortunate for him and the Sixers. Now, the hope is that this recent surgery will have him fully healthy and ready to go. Everybody knows what Embiid looks like when he is his dominant self. The 2024-25 season wasn’t it.
