Fleeing Impala Gets A Big PIT Maneuver

One of the duties of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office BAT Unit is to run traffic and pull over offenders. As you might imagine, the deputies in that unit are pretty good at chasing down people who decide they don’t have to pull over for law enforcement. Apparently, this guy driving a 2011 Chevy Impala decided to put their skills to the test and he no doubt regretted that decision in the end.

Tesla Cybertruck does a hit-and-run on a motorcycle.

Dashcam footage shows the BAT Unit hunting in pairs on the road. After one deputy spots the Impala make an improper lane change, he activates his lights and begins pulling the suspect over. The second unit, our camera car, also turns on his lights and follows.

Maybe the sight of two cruisers in his rearview mirror is too much for the Chevy driver, because instead of stopping in the parking lot where he turns off, he takes a trip around Burger King, then gets back on the road real casual like.

The suspect seems to toy with the lead deputy, almost daring him to do a PIT while there’s traffic all around. It’s either that or the guy is scared to really drop the hammer in his Impala, because we know for a fact they can accelerate much harder.

Frustrated, the deputy gets on his loudspeaker and warns the fleeing suspect, who has his windows down: “I’m about to put you in a ditch, pull over. I’m about to put you into a tree, pull over.” That’s what we call foreshadowing.

Our suspect doesn’t seem to think the deputy will actually do it. He also doesn’t run that hard and keeps hitting the brakes. It’s such bizarre behavior. While we don’t encourage anyone to run from cops, why would you only do a half measure? Why not just pull over instead of racking up serious criminal charges?

After that, the guy does nail it, goes straight in a curve on the road, down a grassy slope, and onto another road below like he’s pulled the maneuver many times before. That’s when the gloves come off and the deputy does exactly like he said, only he PITs the Impala and the driver recovers.

As the chase continues, the deputy catches back up and immediately does another PIT, this time sending the Chevy into a business’ brick sign.

Clayton County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t mess around.
