A Fort Myers man was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for shooting and killing a senior citizen.

A Fort Myers man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for a murder outside a popular Naples nightclub.

Alexander Michael Evans, 34, was found guilty of second-degree murder with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a person 65 or older, according to the Office of the State Attorney Twentieth Judicial Circuit announced in a news release Thursday.

Evans, who pled no contest, was arrested in October 2022 after shooting someone older than 65 outside of the Cavo Lounge located in Mercato of Naples.

Prior to the shooting, Evans and the victim were in a physical altercation and were escorted to the parking lot, where Evans pulled a gun from his waistband and shot the victim. He then fled on foot.

The victim died at the scene, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

Collier County deputies identified Evans because he left his credit card on a table inside the club.

The defendant took a flight to Europe after fleeing during which a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Upon his return, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested Evans at the Fort Lauderdale Airport just after his flight landed. The court required Evans to surrender his passport before his trial began, according to an order made as a condition of pretrial release.

The court also ordered that Evans pay $9,866 for the investigation, court and prosecution costs of his case.

“This was a lengthy and intricate investigation conducted by multiple bureaus within the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from outside agencies and the community,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said.

“I want to thank everyone who worked diligently to gather the necessary evidence to bring this individual into custody and hold him accountable for his actions,” Rambosk said. “He is now going to prison for a long time.”
