Hailey Bieber is never letting go of the oversized clutch.
While popping into Sushi Stop with Kendall and Kylie Jenner on April 3, the 28-year-old model tucked a ludicrously capacious black clutch underneath the arm of her speckled fur coat and a casual white tank top, finishing off the oversized-everything ensemble with a pair of baggy jeans and pointed stiletto heels. This is far from the first time Bieber has stepped out with this type of bag in recent months—nay, years—as Vogue writer Hannah Jackson points out. From 2021—2023, the model carried a collection of oversized clutches in neon colors and bold prints to go with equally eye-catching ensembles.
In 2025, however, she’s taking a more elegant approach to the trend, pairing black XL clutches with timeless pieces like classic trench coats and fitted blazers.
Hailey Bieber seemingly rediscovered her love of the oversized clutch after a certain Coach bag graced the runway in September 2024. Fashion editors everywhere have been salivating over brand’s absurdly large Kisslock Clutch since its New York Fashion Week debut, dubbing it the “next It-bag” before it even made it to market. Need further proof? Carrie Bradshaw herself will be carrying the piece in the next season of And Just Like That!
While that particular piece is completely sold out, Coach isn’t the only game in town. Like Hailey Bieber, street style experts have been rocking versions of the look for months, typically styled equally oversized ensembles to keep the proportions balanced.
Comfort is clearly not top priority when it comes to this spring-summer 2025 bag trend. It’s hard enough to find your keys at the bottom of a giant hobo bag hanging off your shoulder, let alone one you need to hold open to dig through it’s contents. And if you’re anything like me—incapable of leaving a purse un-stuffed to it’s brim—you’re looking at an arm workout every time you leave your apartment. Hey, at least you’ll be multitasking!
