Are you really best friends if you donât have opposing style? I donât know, but Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone sure looked too cool to approach in their contrasting spring looks.
During an outing in New York City, the pair embraced very different aesthetics, with Stone mixing feminine and masculine pieces just as effortlessly as she rocks her pixie cut. The 36-year-old actor paired a black minidress and sheer stockings with lug-sole loafers and an oversized brown suede jacket by the Parisian brand Soeur.
Meanwhile, Lawrence utilized bold colors and textures in her layered look, pairing a vibrant red kimono-style coat with cheetah-print boots peeking out under her wide-leg pants. Whether or not this was Lawrenceâs intention, her outfit is the perfect example of TikTokâs seven-point rule, which assigns each wardrobe item a number of points to achieve a balanced look with just the right amount of interest.
The goal is to score from 7 to 10 points using the following scores: Basic single-tone items earn one point each; pieces with contrasting colors and textures get two points. For Lawrence, her loose-fitting pants, white button-up, black sweater, and complementary black bag would each be valued at one point (thatâs four) while her coat and shoes are each deserving of two (weâre up to eight). Add in her simple earrings (worth one point) and chic Wayfarer sunglasses (another single point), and you’ve got yourself a 10-point look.
While these looks couldnât be more different, they both succeed by creating contrast with their spring coats. Stone gave her classic little black dress some edge with her boxy brown jacket, while Lawrence added a punch of color and structure to her loose-fitting outfit with an elegant statement piece.
Thanks to Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence, I can now envision a hundred different ways to style both spring jackets, which means Iâm officially on the hunt.
