California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) shrugged off a new nickname he was given by former President Trump, calling the Republican presidential nominee “an embarrassment.”

Newsom on Sunday joined MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” where he and Psaki discussed the former president, who calls the California governor a slew of names, including “Newscum.”

“It’s very familiar to me. I think it was a seventh of eighth grader that called me Newscum. Now it’s a 78-year-old,” Newsom said. “You know, maybe you could describe him also as a man child of sorts.”

“I mean, it’s really, this is, what an embarrassment,” he continued.

Newsom went on to stay he married into a family of Republicans and argued name calling is “not even a partisan point of view.” He said he doesn’t talk down to others, even those who don’t support him politically.

“I don’t talk down to people, past people, people who support me, people who don’t support me. That’s the American thing to do. It’s about community,” he said.

The California governor and Trump have traded insults for years. Newsom has called the former president “unhinged” and been an advocate for Vice President Harris because he says there is “no one better” to prosecute Trump than her.

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
