The Monkey, the violently bananas film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story of the same name, hits theaters tomorrow. That hasn’t stopped Neon’s weird-ass marketing campaign for the movie, however, as this just-released video starring writer-director Osgood Perkins, whose previous credits include Longlegs, makes clear.
The two-and-a-half-minute clip has some vibes. It appears to be shot on old film, and has Perkins in a lab coat in what appears to be a morgue, talking directly to camera about his new movie, which—if previously released trailers are any indication—is a gory and comedic tale about a toy monkey that, when wound up, appears to be the cause of people around him getting killed in myriad ways.
How many ways, exactly? Perkins lists at least some of them in this new video. They include: decapitations, eviscerations, electrocutions, impalements, a disembowelment, an infestation, an immolation, a conflagration, an exsanguination, and a… wait for it… a defenestration.
Try saying that list five times fast!
The Monkey stars a toy monkey as well as Theo James. (Twice! He plays twin brothers Hal and Bill, who have a long family history with said monkey.) It also features Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), and Elijah Wood.
The movie premieres in theaters tomorrow! Which is Friday, February 21, 2025.
