Specialists in health projects and fire safety testing have announced new roles in the construction industry.
Firms revealed they had made strategic appointments to enable them to bid for new business in new areas.
Life science project developments to build scientific research facilities are increasing and this was cited among reasons for appointments this week.
Urban warriors
Continuing the trend, engineering consultancy Arcadis appointed “two industry heavyweights” to grow its urban team.
Simon Carter
Simon Carter was appointed as an associate principal to advance Arcadis’ work and innovation in life sciences. He has been tasked with finding “new opportunities for private and public sectors” with clients including the NHS and major healthcare investors.
Meanwhile, build-to-rent specialist Rory O’Hagan will lead residential and hospitality design work, including current schemes in Reading and Manchester.
Bravery needed
The trade association for the plant, tool, equipment and event hire sectors has also announced a new appointment.
The Hire Association Europe & Event Hire Association appointed Neil Bravery as commercial director.
He was previously managing director at SHC Hire for 11 years, acquiring the business through a management buyout.
A talent to Muse
Development consultancy Muse has signed up Matt Whiteley and Adam Bennett.
Matt Whiteley
Whiteley was appointed as senior development manager. He joins the Salford-based team from Harworth Group, where he delivered residential and commercial regeneration projects across the North West.
Bennett has joined as senior new homes manager. He joins from Vistry and prior to this he worked at Nikal, Hillcrest Homes and Duchy Homes.
Testing times
Testing, inspection and certification firm Socotec UK has a new leader taking the helm.
Matthew Marriott
Matthew Marriott took over as chief executive on 9 September, replacing Nicolas Detchepare.
Detchepare now leads the firm’s activities in the US, having grown the number of employees to 2,000.
Marriott joins from Premier Technical Services Group, where he served as managing director of fire solutions for two years. Prior to this he was vice president of field operations and quality at Otis Elevator.
World of interiors
Former Selco chief executive Howard Luft is set to join specialist supplier SIG UK Interiors as managing director.
Luft joins from Selco Builders Warehouse after being succeeded by former Travis Perkins chief operating officer Frank Elkins.
Luft will start at SIG in October, taking over from Richard Burnley who left the business in August.
SIG chief executive Gavin Slark said: “Howard’s experience across both of our stakeholder constituencies will be a huge benefit to the business.”
