Street Fighter’s New Director Is a Twisted Metal and The Eric Andre Show Alum

Legendary and Capcom are still plugging away at their latest movie adaptation from the Street Fighter video game franchise. Back in April 2023, we found out that Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou were tapped to helm the project. But then in June 2024, we found out that the Philippous were out, though no new director was announced.

Today, however, we know now who will be overseeing the production. According to Deadline, Kitao Sakurai, whose previous credits include directing four episodes of the Anthony Mackie-starring series Twisted Metal, The Eric Andre Show, and 2021’s Bad Trip, has joined the production.

We still, sadly, have no news on what the plot of the movie is. And we also have no information on who will be acting in the film. We do know that this will be the latest attempt to bring a slew of characters to life who enjoy fighting and murdering each other in creative ways since 2009’s much-maligned Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

We also have a release date for the film, which was announced back in June 2024. Then, Sony and Legendary announced that Street Fighter would pummel into theaters starting on March 20, 2026. Whether that release date changes given the change in the director’s chair remains to be seen. icon-paragraph-end
