The game Split Fiction, released last month, was an immediate hit, selling more than two million copies in its first week (and it’s not even available for Switch yet). The cooperative story of two writers who get trapped together in a simulation of their own stories, it requires that you play with a friend. And it’s already getting turned into a movie.
Variety broke the news that Split Fiction will star Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, Immaculate) and have as a director none other than Wicked’s John M. Chu. Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script. The film is being produced by the company Story Kitchen, which is also behind the Sonic the Hedgehog and Tomb Raider franchises.
The game synopsis says:
In Split Fiction, you and your co-op partner will become Mio and Zoe, two writers trapped in a simulation of their own imaginations after a high-tech attempt to steal their creative ideas goes badly wrong. This pair of strangers will need to learn to work together in order to escape with their memories and stories intact. Prepare to deal with dragons and trolls in Zoe’s fantasy worlds and cyber ninjas and robo-parking attendants in Mio’s sci-fi creations.
Together, you’ll need to overcome any obstacle thrown your way to make it through this weird, wild and wholly unexpected tale of friendship.
This summary doesn’t get near explaining the gameplay, which, as a gameplay video from publisher Electronic Arts demonstrates below, includes getting turned into a pig. And then into… uh… something that happens to pigs. I don’t really know how you control a hot dog, but I guess in this game, you can find out.
Variety says that Sweeney has not yet decided if she will play Mio or Zoe. No studio is attached to release the movie yet.
