Was Selena Gomez's Engagement Sponsored By Taco Bell?

No, seriously. Was Selena Gomez’s engagement sponsored by Taco Bell? Because there are elements of these proposal pictures she posted to Instagram that are giving off a certain “brand partnership” quality.

I’m talking specifically about the picture taken on what appears to be an indoor set, made to look like a picnic, with artfully arranged Taco Bell takeout boxes next to the picnic basket. In the photo Gomez, wearing a fuzzy fashion-Yeti top appears to be admiring her new engagement ring, but said nothing about the fast food merch beside her.

At least one TikTok creator has done a full deep dive on this Taco Bell engagement lore, indicating that Taco Bell might actually have a romantic personal meaning for the couple. As Blanco related to People, Taco Bell is Gomez’s favorite food, and he even learned how to recreate the fast food chain’s distinctive meat so that he could make her homemade Taco Bell. “For Valentine’s Day, I got her Taco Bell, I made her movie-theater nachos, I found her favorite pickles from Texas and I deep-fried them for her. Then [I had] all her candies and Hot Cheetos,” he said.

So, perhaps Blanco simply rented out a soundstage to recreate their Taco Bell picnic for the proposal which, in context, is actually pretty cute. Or maybe Gomez—whose love for Taco Bell is now a matter of public record—was filming a commercial for the brand and Blanco took the opportunity to propose in between takes. Or maybe Taco Bell has a new romance-themed campaign coming up and Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco opted to become a part of that in a major way.

If we ever discover an answer to this mystery, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, who else is suddenly craving a Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme?
