House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is holding a press conference Friday morning, just days after Republicans clinched continued control of the lower chamber.
Jeffries earlier this week sought to take the blame for Democrats’ losses in this month’s election, though his Democratic colleagues signaled their support for him. Jeffries, who was elected House Democrats’ leader in 2022, is expected to run unopposed in leadership elections next week.
His comments come after House Republicans locked in their top leaders Wednesday. GOP lawmakers unanimously nominated Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to keep his leadership post, while reelecting Reps. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) to continue in their positions as majority leader and majority whip, respectively.
The presser is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. EST.
